page 3 sigma alpha epsilon Chapter Eternal Robert Mason Reed '50 entered Chapter Eternal on December 7, 2015, at the age of 88. After graduating from high school in 1944, Bob enlisted in the Navy. Upon his discharge in 1946, he returned to attend Kansas State University. Bob married Thelma Jo Stedham in 1948 after she graduated. His Navy training allowed Bob to graduate early and he was offered a job with Shell Oil Company. He started in Tulsa, Okla. Bob had a successful career with Shell, progressing to increasingly responsible positions. When he retired in 1986, he was general manager of Shell's Information and Computer Center, which operated out of Houston. In 1960, when Bob and Thelma Jo were living in Oklahoma City, Okla., their only child, Molly, was born. Throughout his successful career with Shell, Bob made sure he dedicated quality time to Thelma Jo and Molly. They went on numerous long summer vacations exploring the U.S. on family road trips. When Molly became involved in showing Arabian horses, he spent many weekends and the majority of his vacation time so they could participate in horse shows as a family. Bob's innate love and way with animals showed the kind heart and humble spirit he had in all areas of his life. A love he shared with Molly and a large part of their shared time together throughout his life. Alumni News William J. Nicholas '48 reports that he is still kicking. He hasn't retired yet but plans to in the next year. He lives in Lander, Wyo. Ernie D. Barrett '51 is proud to be a SAE and could tell a lot of stories about his times in the chapter. He and his wife, Bonnie, live in Manhattan, Kan. Donald H. Flowers '61 and his wife, Sue (KKG) celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in September. They live in The Villages, Fla., and enjoy golfing on many different golf courses. E-mail: donsuegolfen@embarqmail.com Gaylen R. Sullivan '61 is retired and living in Lake Arrowhead, Calif., where the pine trees are tall and the winds are calm, unlike the plains of Kansas. He does miss a good Kansas thunderstorm. Gaylen's career in landscape architecture spanned from 1962 to 2010, mainly in California, where he designed parks and recreation facilities for public and governmental agencies. He is thankful for his SAE brothers for helping groom him for a successful and rewarding life. E-mail: dballplayer1@aol.com James R. Breneman '64 retired from W.H. Loehner/BWR last July. He now works in private practice, serving as owner's representative on a large construction project. Jim also serves as a member of the Prairie Village planning commission, where he and his wife, Pegge, live. E-mail: jbreneman@sbcglobal.net Arnold D. Sondergard '65 traveled for a couple years after retiring in 1999, and went back to work as a consultant for three years after that. He then went to a different company for two years, working part time. Arnold moved from southern California to Lincoln, Calif., to be closer to his daughter and her family around the Lake Tahoe area. He stays busy with various volunteer organizations in the retirement complex. He also attends many NASCAR races throughout the U.S. and does some foreign travel. Both he and his wife of 50 years, Judy, are in excellent health. E-mail: asondergard@att.net David H. Mickey '66 is retired and keeps busy. He is an active volunteer at Hove Rotary Club doing back office work. David is also a trustee of Kenya Children Centres, where he funds and operates an orphanage for girls in Thika, Kenya. He and his wife, Nicole, have three outreach programs in the area where they assist the disadvantaged. David and Nicole travel to the States once a year and spend the summer months in their holiday home in Story, Wyo. The rest of the year they reside in East Sussex, England. E-mail: davidmickey35@yahoo.com Thomas E. Miller '79 traveled to Manhattan in December to see the Wildcats take on West Virginia in football. Thomas stopped by the chapter house and was given a nice welcome and tour. It was a nice trip and made him proud. He says to keep up the good work! He and his wife, Barbara, live in St. Joseph, Mo.
