BURNS (7-1 overall / 4-1 in conference play) SHELBY (9-0 / 5-0 in conference play) Shelby is now 9-0 this season after knocking off previously unbeaten Burns 35-7. No matter which side you were on, it was good to see this rivalry back at such a high level. Game Notes: *Shelby led 14-0 at halftime and took a 21 to nothing lead in the 3rd quarter before Burns made it interesting for a while at 21-7, but then the Lions added another score *A workhorse on offense was Devin Gullatte - 8 rushes, 2 receptions for nearly 100 yards, and a touch- down *Shelby QB Malik Sarratt has now thrown for over 2,000 yards total this season. He threw for 295 in this one. *The Truck, Shelby's Juwan Sims averaged almost 37 yards a punt and delivered 3 of them inside the Burns 20 yard line *Burns ran the ball 43 times for 244 yards and would have had much more if it wasn't for losses due to Shelby's Defense *Burns' touchdown came on a 46 yard run by Running Back Aaron Hill This Week- The Bulldogs go back on the road in SMAC play with a visit to Draughn. In their 2015 meeting, Draughn handed the Dawgs a 14 to 13 loss in a low scoring contest. The loss was Burns fi fth in a row during a tough stretch for last season's squad. Scoring in that game for Burns came from K.J. Hopper on a one-yard touchdown run, while Wide Receiver Tominique Watkins caught a pass in the end zone. An extra point was no good, which allowed Draughn to keep the lead and win the game. Look for Burns to return to their winning ways and get revenge this time round. The Golden Lions have a bye week and will return to SMAC play Oct. 28th at home when they host Draughn. At the end of this South Mountain Athletic Conference (SMAC) contest, Kings Mountain took care of business in a 35-7 fi nal. Total offensive yards for the Mountaineers was 321 with 233 of them coming from rushing. After a slow start, the Kings Mountain running game sparked the offense during the fi rst half. Leading the way was Running Back Darian McClain, who had 76 yards off of 18 carries and four touchdowns. Darian's scores were rushing touchdowns of 12, 10, and 9 yards, plus two 1-yard runs. This was a great response by Greg Lloyd's team who was down early in the contest 7 to 0. More signs are showing that Sophomore Quarterback- Kaylon Wade continues to grow and get comfortable. Kaylon had the task of replacing regular starting Quarterback Darren Burns, who was lost for the season due to an injury several weeks ago. As for Kaylon, he was 5 of 10 in pass attempts for almost 100-yards and had 50-yard keeper for a touchdown run. This Week- Kings Mountain returns to the road, as they'll enter Rutherford County for a meeting with the Chase Trojans. Chase is 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the conference this season. Last season, the Mountaineers shutout the Trojans by a score of 24-0. The Crest passing game came alive with a big performance from Quarterback Cameron Peeler, who completed 12 of 15 attempts for over 150 yards, including three touchdowns. Cameron even added a rushing touchdown. In the often rotation of two Crest quarterbacks, Peyton Summerlin added 92-yards of passing, one of those was a touchdown, and he also had a running score. Receivers of those scores, included Tyshun Odom, Wesley Bullard, Ty Hosch, and Namari Borders. Crest's defense was solid and even got a touchdown when East Burke threw an interception to Linebacker Tavian Brintley of 38-yards. It was also another good week for Crest Kicker Evan Davis as he connected on fi ve extra point attempts. This Week- Crest will host East Rutherford in their latest conference contest. The Chargers laid a big time shutout on the Cavaliers last sea- son - winning 48-0 on the road. Crest got off to a fast start and never looked back with 229 yards in passing. Still a member of the Chargers this season, Tyshun Odom was a big part of the passing game success. Now in college, Tre Harbison had three rushing touchdowns before the half. The score was 45-0 at halftime. Leading the defense in that game was, Clemson bound, Linebacker Justin Foster now in his senior season.
