Concert-goers were transfixed by the explosion of crash cymbals, rumble of the tom-toms, cracks from the snare. They stopped and watched as the hypnotically rhythmic, wildly erratic, powerfully wonderful solo by drummer Cindy Blackman Santana took center stage for what seemed like 10 minutes at the On the Green San Francisco Fest 2016 in September. The performance, amid Santana's high-energy set, allowed all of AT&T Park to hear the immense talents of Blackman Santana, a lifelong professional musician who toured with and later married music icon Carlos Santana. The Santanas live in Nevada but spend a lot of time in Marin County, and Blackman Santana graciously afforded North Bay Woman a photo shoot at the band's studio in San Rafael. For being a world-renowned celebrity, she was approachable and easy-going with our photographer, writer and stylists. Hers is one of many powerful stories that we hope you enjoy in this edition of North Bay Woman. – Rob Devincenzi | Publisher North Bay Woman cover photo shoot at the Santana studio in Marin.
