"Get connected to those kinds of social media," she says, but cautions, "Make sure it's with people you can trust." In addition, RCU offers Bite of Reality financial workshops for teens all over the North Bay, and McKenzie sometimes vol- unteers. She explains that participants get a fictional identity and budget, and then visit tables with topics such as housing, food, cell phones, leisure and babies and make choices about how to spend their money. They don't necessarily weigh their wants against their needs, so at the end, they might be short and have to meet with a credit counselor so they can figure out where to make adjustments and live within their designated income. "They're fun, and kids learn valuable real-life financial lessons," she says, point- ing out that becoming knowledgeable about money is important and empower- ing, because it helps people make good financial decisions and attain their life goals. Reflecting on her career, "It's been very rewarding," she says. She works with talented people who are creative problem solvers, and they laugh together often. "I'm a big believer in the power of humor and laughter, and I get to do that every day," she says. "If I had one word to describe me, I'd say grateful," says McKenzie. A Santa Rosa resident, she has a family she's proud of, with a wonderful husband and three great children, and she appreciates living in a beautiful area of the North Bay. "I love nature, hiking and being outdoors, and I love the beauty of this area," she says.
