Cab at Christmas When she isn't on the road, Sbrocco also hosts Christmas dinners. "My husband, Leonard, is Italian, and when we got mar- ried my mother-in-law taught me how to make the tradition- al ravioli for Christmas Eve," she said. The whole family gets involved in the process, including the Sbroccos' 22-year-old daughter, Grace, and 14-year-old son, Dominic. Together, they roll out the dough and fill the pockets with a mixture of veal, pork, spinach and Italian cheeses. "When we're cooking, I love to stay in the Italian theme, so we have Prosecco," Sbrocco says. "My favorite is Villa Sandi Vigna la Rivetta, and it's so beautiful. I also just discov- ered the Barone Fini Pinot Grigio. It costs about 17 bucks and it's great!" For the ravioli, she gravitates toward aged Tuscans. "I'll open an Italian red, like a Chianti Classico." Sbrocco's mom takes charge of the kitchen on Christmas Day, and makes a standing rib roast with Yorkshire pudding. For this, Sbrocco breaks out the Cabernet Sauvignon. "I'm more of an old-school girl, so I like the elegant classics — Spottswoode from Napa and Sonoma's Jordan. When you get an older Jordan it's just ethereal." Before the roast beef, she starts the meal with bubbly. "I love the Iron Horse Russian Cuvée for Christmas," she says. "It's got such a richness to it, and a beautiful red label, so it's ideal for the holidays." Bubbly new year Given Sbrocco's professed adoration for sparkling wines, bubbles are naturally the focus of her New Year's Eve gath- erings. "I like to have only big bottles, magnum size or larger," she says.
