"It's the first impression any guest will have and the perfect place to use a color that is carried throughout the home." Winter decorating, he believes, is all about creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. "Metallics, votives, wreaths and faux furs are the go-to items for this season," he says. "Sticking to white, neutrals and greens will evoke a classic color palette. But don't be afraid to be bold with some gold and brass accents. For example, a brass coat rack and umbrella stand can really bring life into an entryway." Boxwood wreaths are a must-have, he adds. "Whether you want a lush, cozy space or minimalist touch, this is the item for you." For a lush foyer, think of layers, dimension and textures. "A grouping of metallic votive holders and candles, stacked books and maybe a festive item or two is all you need to make a console table feel more inviting," McMahan says. Toss a faux fur throw over a chair or string LED lights around a wall mirror for added luxe and sparkle. The cool (weather) living room "The holidays are a chance to breathe new life into the living room," insists Sarah Godsey, owner of Bluestone Main in Petaluma. "The first thing I think about when decorating for the winter months is creating a warm, welcoming mood and space for everyone to gather." And personal. "It doesn't matter whether your style is lush and sophisticated or simple and organic," she says. "The best holiday look is one that reflects you and your surroundings and brings you joy."
