Santana hadn't
slept in two days.
It didn't matter.
In a long-distance
interview, her
energy almost
melted the cell phone because on
the previous night, Aug. 24, the
57-year-old rock and jazz drummer
had performed in a unique new
band: Mega Nova.
Blackman Santana and her
husband of six years, rock 'n'
roll and Latin music titan Carlos
Santana, debuted this group at
the Hollywood Bowl. Created by
Santana, Mega Nova fused some
of jazz world's most renowned
musicians: Herbie Hancock, Wayne
Shorter, Karl Perazzo and Marcus
Miller working in concert with
Santana and Blackman Santana.
"Oh my goodness. There was
such an array of texture, beautiful
sound, incredible feel, innovation
and joy," Blackman Santana
says. "I haven't slept but it's OK
because I'm still buzzing from it. It
