WHAT'S INSIDE 9/11 ceremony held at Celia's Rainbow Gardens SEE 9/11 PAGE 4 Very special dedication ceremony held at Celia's Rainbow Gardens to remember 9/11 and open the new area by Joanne Winer We had a very special ceremo- ny at the new Heroes Bell Gar- dens at the south end of Celia's Rainbow Gardens on the 15th anniversary of the tragedy of the events of Sept. 11, 2001. The cer- emony dedicated the bells which were donated by Howard Arm- strong, a long time Quartzsite resident and entrepreneur who had a vision way back when and bought 1100 acres at the west end of town known as the Main Event. His generosity to non-profits and others who needed help was one of the things that made him such an asset to the town, and his death many years ago signaled the end of an era here. Howard was remembered at the beginning of the ceremony for all his donations to the Gardens, and Elmer London, also a long time resident, did the honors of ring- ing the bells in Howard's memory. Paul Winer told the story of How- ard and how the bells came to be in this area. After the Pledge of Al- legiance and a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem by flutist Mark Church, the ceremony with a short introduction of the re- membrances of the events of Sept. 11, 2001. I explained that the reason for this new area in the Gardens was to have a permanent monument to honor those who put their lives on the line every day to help our community and other communi- ties all across the country. The events of Sept. 11, 2001 cannot and should not ever be forgotten, and also the events of three years ago where 19 young Hot Shot fire- fighters trying to save the town Happy Autumnal Equinox Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016
