Tehama District Fairground In late September the Tehama District Fair comes to life and gives locals a chance to share in the bounties of their agricultural efforts, artistic talents and community spirit. Events are scheduled Thursday through Sunday the week of the fair, and many choose to attend every day of the fair because there is so much to see and do. Just like any good fair, the Tehama District Fair started as a friendly contest between neighbors showing off the things they bake, animals they raised or crops they grew. Cotton candy, merry-go- rounds, diaper derbies and dancing pigs mark the events highlighted during the fair and Junior Livestock Auction. There's also Miss Tehama County and Little Miss Tehama County competitions, wine-tasting, an abundance of shows and a local agriculture showcase. For four days, the district fairground is filled with the scent of corn dogs, popcorn, funnel cakes, ribs and corn on the cob. Other events include a large carnival with games and rides, special kids' carnival for the younger set, destruction derby, pony rides and petting zoo, a climbing wall, bungee trampoline jumping, jugglers, clowns, magicians, hypnotists and countless musical groups. A highlight for many is the annual concert by a top selling Country and Western per- former. For more information, call 527-5920 or visit tehamadis- trictfair.com. In addition to the fair, the fairground hosts Fourth of July Heritage Days Celebration, Red Bluff Outlaw Kart racing, Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale, Red Bluff Round-Up PRCA rodeo, Latino Outreach Cinco de Mayo celebration, Red Bluff Junior Round-Up, West Coast Monster Truck Nationals, St. Elizabeth Community Hospital Health Spree and Western Open Fiddle Championships. A professionally designed BMX track has been added recently, and an additional monster truck show has been scheduled for May. Check the Daily News for information, Dozens of horse shows and other animal shows and large community gatherings and banquets are held at the Fairground throughout the year. Check the event calen- dar in the back of this guide for details of upcoming events.
