I t is with great excitement and pride I tell you that Alpha Iota has a new home for our undergraduates, alumni, friends, and family. A select few alumni came together to purchase the 1.31-acre site, which will be the largest fraternity lot at the University of Arkansas. Amazing! This site is in walking distance to Maple Street, Old Main Lawn, and the bus route. On June 25, over 50 Alpha Iota Brothers met in Little Rock to discuss future housing opportunities for the Alpha Iota Chapter and voted to proceed with this new site and its potential to build a fraternity house upon submission of final plans and receiving Alumni Board approval. It was a historical day for our Chapter; a day where we decided to come together and move towards building a new Chapter House on the property that will be owned and managed by our alumni! If you want to visit the property, head west down Maple Street, turn right on Whitham Avenue (right before Alpha Omicron Pi sorority), head two blocks, and you are there! If you travel south down Leverett Street or Garland Avenue, you can also turn left on Cleveland Street, go to the end of the street, and you will run right into it. On page 4, you will see a picture excerpt from UA's strategic housing plan and you will see that the University has plans to build more dorms on Cleveland Street to the west of our new property, and potentially build a new parking deck to the south on Whitham Avenue. This is proposed because of the four to five new sorority plots that are set near us on Whitham Avenue and Maple, Leverett, and Douglas Streets. Phi Mu has already broke ground on their lot on Maple Street and the University is bringing other sororities to campus, including Delta Gamma. This lot is very close to campus, as the University already owns parking lots just one block away on Taylor Street. For seven years, we were without a permanent home. No more! We invite everyone to join us in celebrating this historical moment by attending fraternity events the weekend of September 2-4. First, we invite you to IFC formal recruitment at the AFLS Auditorium on Friday evening, September 2, to help our 30 undergraduates recruit the first class of brothers who will call this place home! Please contact me if you are interested in attending so I can get you more details. The following day is Bid Day and all alumni are encouraged to attend. Our current members will welcome our new members on Old Main Lawn that morning and then bring them to 688 Whitham Avenue, where we will all prepare for the first Razorback football game of the season. We invite all alumni to come to the property Saturday morning, September 3, to park for the game, eat lunch provided by the membership, listen to great music, and cheer on our Razorbacks to victory. Lunch and entertainment is scheduled to start at 11 a.m., but please come early to meet our new members, see the property, and build upon the bonds of Alpha Gamma Rho. All family and friends are invited. See you September 2-3—time to celebrate!
