A-110 lafayette, CA 94549 Coach's Corner: Coach David esquer I t is summertime 2016 and time to reflect on the season. First and foremost, we had a large and very talented group of fine young men graduate from our program. I am extremely proud of what they have achieved during their time at Cal, and look forward to their future successes. Seniors Ryan Mason (15th round Twins), Mitchell Kranson (10th round Twins), Brian Celsi, Devin Pearson, Sean Peters, Jesse Kay, Keaton Siomkin (free agent signee Cardinals), Jordan Talbot, Nick Halamandaris (free agent signee Mariners), Brenden Farney, and Grant Diede have graduated. Along with them, juniors Daulton Jefferies (supplemental first round A's), Alex Schick (sixth round Twins), Aaron Knapp (eighth round Marlins), Robbie Tenerowicz (27th round Rays), and sophomore Brett Cumberland (second round Braves) have signed professional contracts. This spring was also a season of some major accomplishments on the field. Brett Cumberland was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year and Nick Halamandaris was the Pac-12 Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. These are two individual achievements of which we are extremely proud. With an exciting group of freshmen and many talented returning players, the future is young but very bright. Returning players have told me they are hungry and eager to get started on next season, and although we can never replace the individuals, we will find a way to replace the success in the positions that these departing players accomplished. I also want to thank all of you who have made this season so successful in our Cal Baseball events and alumni outreach. We have had so many successful events, including the Ralph Walker Cup Golf Tournament, Alumni Weekend, For Love of the Game Gala, Pro Day, Alumni Beer Garden, and Senior Day. And to all those involved in making our game day experience the best ever, thank you! We will take the summer to recruit and get ready to start up another season in the fall with our sights on a successful 2017 season. I can only hope that it will be one with fewer injuries (and fewer questionable calls!). GO BEARS! Bears Get new and Improved locker room C al Baseball's locker room was in serious need of a facelift and, with the generosity of several program supporters, the remodel was completed in time for the season opener! The locker room was completely gutted to accommodate the upgrades. The ceiling was raised to improve the space; the HVAC system was reconfigured to improve air flow; new and larger lockers were installed, including four extra lockers for visiting player alumni; and a rubber floor replaced the old carpet, which is much easier to clean. Additionally, a brand new sound system and big-screen TVs were installed. Before the 2017 season begins, Cal graphics will be added throughout the room. The project cost of $86,000 was funded by the Cal Baseball Foundation, made possible by personal donations specific to the locker room remodel totaling $40,000. Plaques acknowledging these donations are placed on individual lockers or at the entrance of the locker room. The Foundation is accepting additional donations for the balance of the project budget. Please contact Dan Deaver, Foundation Treasurer, at (925) 385-2022. "The new locker room is a blessing and huge deal for the players. Not only is it a great locker room with all the upgrades, it's an excellent place for the team to hang out together. It's going to be a great recruiting tool. Thank you to all those who made this happen!" -Aaron Knapp, Junior Outfielder
