This past academic year, we maintained a 3.20 and 3.17 GPA during the fall and spring semesters, respectively. We placed an emphasis on academic achievement as well as community involvement during the recruitment process, and are pleased with the job our recruitment chairmen have done. The incoming pledge class had an average high school GPA of 3.5, and it is our hope that their strong academic successes transfers at the collegiate level. It is our goal to improve our overall chapter GPA to a 3.30 or better this fall. We are confident that this can be achieved if we foster the proper atmosphere and attitude toward learning that is required to be successful. Our scholarship chairmen are organizing plans for study hours as well as a peer-tutoring program where brothers can assist others when they are struggling. We believe this will be a great step toward achieving our goals and bettering our chapter's academic standing. Our Derby Days events were April 18-22 and were wildly successful. We raised nearly $12,000 for the Folds of Honor Foundation, which was founded by Alpha Xi alumnus Major Dan Rooney '95. The week was filled with various competitions among the sororities and drew the attention of hundreds of participants and spectators each night. The week was capped off with a celebratory formal for brothers to gather for a night of dancing and good food. This year, Alpha Xi was honored to co-host the first Hoops for Haley basketball tournament with the women of Pi Beta Phi. The tournament benefitted the Ali Kemp TAKE Foundation and Folds of Honor. This event remembers Haley Drown, a KU student who passed away far too soon in the spring of 2015. Our team was able to outplay all other fraternities and take home first place. We will make this a yearly event, and cannot wait to see more success. Our chapter does an outstanding job of hosting Derby Days. We believe it is the premiere philanthropy event at the University of Kansas. However, in recent years, we haven't done particularly well in participating in other fraternity/sorority philanthropy events. This year, we are putting an emphasis on becoming more involved with other Greek organizations on campus. We plan to achieve this by requiring members to participate in at least two non-Sigma Chi philanthropy events per semester in addition to our mandatory 11 service hours per semester. We see this as a great way to become better involved and better connected with the rest of the Greek community.
