Nothing can be done without hope and confidence." ~ Helen Keller Twice/month publishing begins September 7, 2016 Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced the arrest of 27-year-old Thomas Daniel on charges of First Degree Premedi- tated Murder and Arson. A State Grand Jury indicted Daniel for his alleged involvement in the mur- der of 65-year-old Linda Garrett, a long-time resident of Quartzsite, Arizona. On August 23rd, 2012, in the eve- ning hours, victim Linda Garrett's deceased body was found with multiple stab wounds and par- tially burned inside her mobile home located on E. Rogers Road, Quartzsite. An autopsy determined Garrett suffered and died from sev- eral stab wounds. At their request, the Arizona Attor- ney General's Office began assisting the Quartzsite Police Department (QPD) with their investigation in 2015. The Quartzsite PD arrested Daniel on Monday, June 20, 2016. QPD case Detective Mike Lancaster received DNA results from the Ari- zona Department of Public Safety Crime Lab matching Thomas Dan- iel taken from the body of Linda Garrett. Daniel was booked into the La Paz County jail for the above mentioned charge. This case is being prosecut- ed by Assistant Attorney General Shawn Steinberg. Daniel was taken to his initial court appeaance at the La Paz County Jus- tice Court #4. Judge Carnevale re- quired a $500,000 bond as requested by the Arizona Attorney General's Of- fice prosecuting attorney Steinberg. The Arizona Attorney General's Of- fice attorney attended the initial appearance and will be prosecuting the case. Daniel will be arraigned on August 1st. Former QPD Chief Ernie Renfro thanked the community members for their patience with this investi- gation and for the assistance from the attorneys and investigators from the Arizona Attorney General's Of- fice in Phoenix, Arizona Depart- ment of Public Safety Crime Lab, Phoenix Police Department and the La Paz County Sheriff's Office.
