3 Sigma Chi Focuses on Leadership, Philanthropic Efforts Duncan Mounger '16 Named Best Chapter President O ver the past year, Eta Chapter has gone above and beyond any other chapter at the University of Mississippi. We have continued the tradition of recruiting campus leaders, aiding in shaping their lives and allowing them to shape ours. Our relationship with the administration has been redefined thanks to the previous consul, Duncan Mounger '16, and his work with the university. Even despite the recent turmoil, the chapter has accomplished many great feats. ETA ChAPTER RECEIvES RECOGNITION We have received many accolades in the past academic year for specific individuals and the chapter as a whole. Duncan received the highest honor of Best Overall Chapter President at the annual University of Mississippi Greek awards. During the ceremony it was said, "There was no task too small or unimportant that this individual would not give his full attention and effort. He worked tirelessly to better himself, his chapter, and this university." Additionally, Clay Wooley '17, our current consul, received the Trailblazer Award. It recognizes individuals in their chapters who are "making a unique and significant contribution to the betterment of their chapter and campus community." LEADERShIP ON CAMPUS The top positions in the Associated Student Body (ASB), the university's student government, are frequently being filled by Eta Chapter members. John Brahan '17 finished his term as ASB vice president, while Austin Powell '17 was elected to serve as ASB president this next academic year. Taylor Wallace '17 is serving as vice president of recruitment advisors in IFC. On a national scale, Eta Chapter's philanthropic event, Derby Days 2015, was noted by Sigma Chi National and the Huntsman Cancer Institute for having one of the most successful Derby Days in the nation. Sigma Chi at the University of Mississippi has sponsored blood drives for Mississippi Blood Services during Derby Days annually since 2009. The 2015 drive led by John Brahan '17 and Austin Powell '17 collected 1,245 units over five days and had a 41 percent increase from the previous year, naming the Derby Days blood drive the largest in Mississippi Blood Services' history. This earned us the MBS 2015 Overall Blood Drive of the Year award. Derby Days 2016 benefitted Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital and Mississippi Blood Services. Eta Chapter looks forward to implementing change on campus and within Greek life. We will work together to persevere and come out stronger than ever. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
