Surf's Up. Marin County Parks has plenty of spots to swim, surf, stand up paddleboard, and kayak including Chicken Ranch Beach on the Tomales Bay and Upton Beach north of Stinson Beach as well as McNears Beach Park and Paradise Beach Park on the San Pablo Bay. Just want to swim? Check out the McNears Beach Park public swimming pool! 2. Tall Trees. Redwoods can grow up to 250 feet high, about the size of a 25 story building. Redwoods are found in many of Marin County's open space preserves. Gary Giacomini and Baltimore Canyon preserves are both home to redwoods, and some trees at Roy's Redwoods and Indian Tree are thought to be more than 250 years old! 3. Only In Marin. There are at least 7 plants that are found in Marin County and nowhere else in the world. The Tiburon mariposa lily only grows on Ring Mountain, and the rare Tiburon jewelfl ower can be spotted at Old Saint Hilary's. A lucky few might spot Mount Tamalpais thistle, Tamalpais lessingia, Tamalpais jewelfl ower, Mt. Tamalpais manzanita, or Marin manzanita in the preserves bordering Mt. Tamalpais. 4. Skate Life. McInnis skatepark in San Rafael features a street section with stairs and rails as well as a huge bowl. Skaters can also hone their skills in free, ranger-led clinics. 5. At Your Doorstep. Marin County Parks manages 34 open space preserves, 4 regional parks, multiuse pathways, 2 boat launches, and dozens of neighborhood parks. Check the map on the back to fi nd a park, preserve, or path near you. All of these facilities are free and open to the public (parking fees apply at 3 regional parks and 2 boat launches). 5 THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT MARIN COUNTY PARKS MCNEARS BEACH PARK TIBURON MARIPOSA LILY TIBURON JEWEL FLOWER MT.
