Epsilon Beta Chapter 2 J oining a sorority can feel like a fairytale— exchanging a castle for a chapter house and a glass slipper for a bid card. Angela DeSautell '00 witnessed the impact sorority life had on her grandmother and knew she wanted to have her own Greek experience at Colorado State University. As an alumna, Angela carries the class and confidence Kappa Kappa Gamma instilled in her as an undergraduate everywhere she goes, and though she no longer lives in the chapter house, she still finds herself in a fairytale. With a degree in human development, Angela spends her days working as the vice president and branch manager for JPMorgan Chase Bank in Denver. She leads the day-to-day direction of the branch portfolio, growth, operations, and customer satisfaction. "I empower and direct finance professionals to drive business and exceed targets and goals," she said. Though her daily life is spent operating the bank branch, once a year she takes part in one of the most anticipated and glamorous televised events in the world—the Academy Awards. It is a true Cinderella experience. For the past five years, Angela has been a part of the Academy Awards host committee aiding in talent relations for the red carpet. "I had a longtime friend of mine move to L.A. and become friends with a producer who connected him with the Daytime Emmys. He met an executive talent producer, for the Academy Awards who he then introduced me to," Angela explained. In her position with the Academy Awards, Angela assists with escorting nominees, past winners, and performers through the photo block and into the Dolby Theatre. "For the show portion, I am captain of the winner's walk, which is the journey the Oscar winners take through the press immediately following their win." After the conclusion of the Academy Awards ceremony, she immediately attends the Governor's Ball, where the year's winners have their Oscar statues engraved. "Oscar Sunday is my utmost favorite Sunday of the year. I feel so incredibly lucky to be serving for the Academy year after year and to be a part of Hollywood's most glamorous night," Angela said. Through working with the Academy, Angela is able to get a glimpse into the touching, intimate moments of today's biggest, brightest stars. "One of my favorite moments was when Anne Hathaway won Best supportingActress in Les Misérables and the executive talent consultant for the Academy, Dina, started walking Anne down the winner's walk," Angela said. "Anne stopped and looked at Dina and asked if they could please walk slower. She 'wanted to enjoy the walk for the rest of her life.'" Angela's love for the arts is a year-round hobby, as she frequently attends concerts in the summer and enjoys the theatre at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. She remains an active alumna in Kappa Kappa Gamma, serving as treasurer on the Epsilon Beta House Board, and hopes to continue to grow as a Kappa in the years to come. T his February, sister and longtime House Board member, Jan Wood Mitchell '65, entered Chapter Eternal. She joined Kappa Kappa Gamma at Colorado State University in 1965 and loved every moment of her membership. As an alumna, Jan dedicated her time to Kappa Kappa Gamma in several ways. She remained connected to her sisters through the Denver Alumnae Association, participating in the monthly book club discussions. Epsilon Beta always had a special place in her heart and for the years she enjoyed in the chapter house, Jan gave back through serving on the House Board as Vice President and later as a House Board Trustee. Jan was a true a sister and always encouraged her fellow Kappas to stay involved in their alumnae lives. "When I first got back involved as an alumna, I almost felt guilty that I didn't spend more time with Kappa when I was in college, but Jan really comforted me. She reminded me that you're a Kappa the majority of your life and your active years are only a short period of your membership," Angela DeSautell '00 said. Giving back to her community was also an area of dedication for Jan. She was active in helping with rescue dogs, volunteering for the thrift store at Soul Dog Rescue, going to clinics, and following up with adoption visits. Epsilon Beta will always remember Jan, her years of service to the chapter, and her kind, warm heart.
