MU CHAPTER OF DELTA KAPPA EPSILON | COLGATE UNIVERSITY SPRING 2016 Yon Clarion Bell FOUNDATION NEWS FROM THE TEMPLE The Mu of DKE Foundation Board of Trustees Bob Bestwick '78 Tom Carlson '93 Cody Cowper '09 Sean F. Wilson '52 Stoking the Embers to Preserve the Flame Class Challenge Heats Up Pledge Today to Ensure Your Class Receives Naming Rights T his winter, Mu of DKE issued a class challenge to its brothers. Within each decade, the class with the highest giving participation will receive permanent recognition within the restored Temple. So far, the classes within each decade with the top participation rates are: • 1957: 56% participation • 1960: 45% participation • 1973: 44% participation • 1980: 10% participation • 1995: 33% participation • 2005: 26% participation • 2011, 2012: 95% participation We are so grateful to these classes for stepping up to the challenge! They are truly modeling the way of what it means to be a Gentleman, Scholar, and Jolly Good-Fellow. If you have yet to contribute, we encourage you to boost your class participation with a gift to the Stoking the Embers to Preserve the Flame campaign today. RENOVATION UPDATE The restoration of our Temple is imperative, yet comes at a cost. Without your financial support, we will not be able to complete our project as envisioned. As you can see from the renderings above, our plans are not only necessary, but will secure Mu of DKE's prominent place on Colgate's campus for years to come. Improvements include security enhancements (outdoor fence and lighting), required foundation work, HVAC updates, and necessary facility improvements. There will also be a balcony looking out at the new Class of 1965 Arena. The campaign has raised $1,933,961 from 196 loyal brothers (18% of our active alumni). In order to reach our $3.3 million goal, we must raise another $1,366,039. If you have already contributed to the campaign, we ask that you consider adding a sixth year to your pledge schedule, matching your one-time gift, or reaching out to a brother who has yet to contribute to encourage his participation. Gifts can me made easily online at www.mudke.org. For those who have yet to contribute, it's essential we receive your support if this restoration is to become a reality. Those pledging $5,000 or more will have their names listed on our prominent donor plaque. While $5,000 may initially seem like a large financial commitment, this amount breaks down to only $83.33 per month over five years. How often do we spend this amount or more on non-necessities without even noticing? We ask that you consider applying your monthly discretionary income to Mu of DKE, which is truly worthy and deserving of our support. In the Bonds, Barry Ridings '74 Campaign Chairman Sean F.
