Main St., Quartzsite • www.QuartzsiteTourism.com • 928-927-5200 By Joanne Winer The Grand Gathering coming up next March seems like a long way away, but the time sure goes fast once one season is over and the next one is coming up in just a few months. One of the things that is being done for the Grand Gathering next year is a special 50th anniversary quilt made with squares of all kinds of Quartzsite t-shirts from different events that have gone on or from groups that spend their winters here and have t-shirts for their groups. Donated t-shirts are needed for this quilt, which will be put together by local quilters and some who come back every winter. They will get some of the preliminary sewing done over the summer and fall, and the quilt will be put together on a huge quilt frame at the Grand Gathering to be finished there and presented to the Quartzsite Improvement Assoc. (QIA). Some T-shirts have been given already, but many more are needed. Please check out your clos- ets and drawers, and anywhere else you might have them stored, and see if there are any Quartzsite shirts you would be willing to donate for this project. We are looking for anything from the past 50 years that has the name Quartzsite on it somewhere and if possible the year--example: chili cook-offs, poker runs, dance groups--anything that would fit the theme of Quartzsite or the Q.I.A. You can drop off any T-shirts at the Quartzsite Business Chamber of Commerce, Reader's Oasis Books, or the office at the Senior and Family Apts. - La Casas de Quartzsite at the east end of town. The finished quilt will be presented to the Q.I.A. at the end of the Grand Gathering and will be hung on one of their walls in the main hall. For further information, please call Joanne at 927-6551.
