From teach- ers expressing frustration to local elected officials, the official's angry response causing a meeting to end abruptly, to national politics ex- ploiting society's anger. It's easy to blame the driver who cut you off, your partner, or your boss for "making you feel angry," but it's your expectations that are probably the real culprit. Anger is an emo- tion that masks underlying feelings. The truth is, expectations are premed- itated disappointments. So whenever you're angry, look for the expectation you have that was not met. Elliott Larson said, "Anger always comes from frustrated expecta- tions." Could it be that the person you're angry with just has a different view point than you? Want to get rid of your anger? Get rid of your expec- tations first. They anger will subside after that and only after that. Even I have expectations. I had ex- pected a QPD press release regard- ing Saturday night's shooting to be released this morning, but it arrived just in time. If you want to keep up with what's happening, be sure to LIKE us on Facebook.com/Desert- MessengerNews. As my mother said, "Expect away..." So...My choice is how much anger do I allow into my body? How long will I hold on to that anger? Or may- be I can change my thinking about the situation and just breathe and hope there will be better communi- cation in the future from the Town. It' s all small stuff. All of it. Includ- ing how your clothes are folded, which way the TP hangs on the roll and waiting in line in traffic or the grocery store. Instead of insisting on having things "your way," try adapt- ing to your environment and other people instead. There's obviously nothing I can do to MAKE another person do what I want, so why not find something to be happy about in the moment? Find something to be grateful for and move on... When less energy is given to an- ger, there's more room to enjoy the things in your life that return joy and fulfillment!
