Quartzsite Town Manager Skylor Miller has announced his resig- nation. In a letter dated May 9, Miller said his resignation would be effective July 8. Miller's resignation comes barely a month after Quartzsite Police Chief Ernie Renfro also resigned. In a press release from Quartzsite Town Hall, it was stated Miller had been Quartzsite's Town Manager for two years. The re- lease added Miller had "resource- fully implemented" the Quartzsite Town Council's vision for a better Quartzsite. In his resignation let- ter, Miller said he was resigning with a "heavy heart." "The decision was not taken lightly, as I am very proud of the town staff and the team that we have built together," he said. "Ul- timately, my family and I believe that it is time to turn a page and begin a new chapter. Quartzsite is a wonderful community and has great potential, but out story doesn't end here." "I wish you all the best in mov- ing forward," Miller continued. "Quartzsite has a remarkable staff of leaders, managers and employees. It is through their skill and dedication that the Town has accomplished so much. I trust that the Town Council will work with these individuals in moving for- ward as they are the strength of the organization." Miller said he would prepare a Town Manager recruitment pack- age for the council's review. He added he will continue to work on the fiscal year 2016-17 budget, and the Community Development Block Grant application. Miller came to Quartzsite follow- ing a period of political infight- ing and instability. The period involved allegations of corruption and violations of the Open Meeting Law. There were recalls of council members and mayors. The last two years have been much more stable, and the town has attracted growth and new spe- cial events. The year-round population of Quartzsite is approximately 3,800 people, but it's estimated that grows to 100,000 during the winter months, and some busy winter weekends may see 500,000 people in Quartzsite.
