FKQ CLONE PHI KAPPA THETA FRATERNITY n IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY n SPRING 2016 Iowa Xi Looks to the Future Alumni Corporate Board Welcomes New Volunteers President Matt Van Berkum '98 berk88@gmail.com Vice President Paul Peterson '01 Treasurer Jon Hicks '02 Secretary Nate Kemmer '03 Property Manager Eric Van Gorp '01 Undergraduate Relations Chairman Adam Jacobi '14 Alumni Relations Chairman Clayton Short '14 Website Administrator Mark Arnold '11 Golf Outing Czars Nate Kemmer '03 Mark Arnold '11 W ith the completion of the renovation and campaign, the Alumni Corporate Board has taken the opportunity to reorganize. This group of volunteers banded together for the last five years and accomplished many things. Everyone's hard work is paying off, and we are excited for the future of our chapter. Jerry Carpenter '88 stepped down after five tireless years of serving as Alumni Corporate Board president and vice president (it should be noted this is not his first stint on the alumni board). His leadership was instrumental in getting our facility upgraded, our alumni base more involved, and our undergraduate chapter headed in the right direction. We can't say enough about the amount of dedication he has shown our organization. Those of you who know Jerry understand that he is quick to deflect any praise, and is a man who truly reflects our motto of "Give, expecting nothing thereof." It's fitting that we highlight Jerry in our alumni spotlight section, so please make sure to read it on page 2. Jerry, on behalf of our alumni and undergraduates, I would like to say thank you for your service—we wouldn't be where we are today without your steadfast leadership. Please enjoy your much deserved break, and we hope you will be back in the action sometime down the road. We would also like to acknowledge Greg Burgess '11, who stepped down as our undergraduate relations chairman after several years of service, and we thank him for his contribution as well. Greg has been an important piece of the puzzle for the last few years. It is important for us to get new leadership to keep our chapter moving forward. Injecting A L U M N I C O R P O R A T E B O A R D fresh enthusiasm and perspective is the key to success. We are pleased to announce that Adam Jacobi '14 and Clayton Short '14 have joined the Alumni Corporate Board as undergraduate relations chairman and alumni relations chairman, respectively. We are excited to get young alumni involved, but we also would like to appeal to all ages to consider volunteering time to our organization that holds a special place to all of us. It's helpful to have more seasoned alumni in leadership positions, and we ask you to consider if you are in a position to assist. The required time commitment varies—it could be as simple as organizing the Homecoming tailgate or the golf outing, or more involved activities such as treasurer duties or board leadership. We need your help. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact me using the information below. We will be happy to find a spot for you in whatever capacity you are comfortable with. I can assure you that the alumni experience mirrors the undergraduate one: you get back tenfold what you put into it. Thank You, Dedicated Alumni Thank you to everyone who donated to the annual campaign. Every aspect of our alumni programming costs money, and we appreciate any annual support on top of the campaign commitments that so many of you have already made. We will be tweaking this program to include small annual projects, so please look for information in upcoming e-mails and mailings. Thank you all for your continued dedication to Phi Kappa Theta. I hope to see you all in the near future. Fraternally, Paul Peterson '01 Vice President paulpeterson13@gmail.com (913) 522-0271 Undergraduates pose after the spring senior ceremony. Graduating seniors Chris Holmquist '16 and Kevin Smetana '16 are seated in front and notorious alumnus Greg Stein '85 oversees things on the far left.
