5 The Daily Star, Oneonta, N.Y., Friday, April 29, 2016 By Andrew Warren TV Media Dreadfully delightful: Showtime's hit horror drama is back for a third season, and it's conjuring up some spooky new bodies to join its ranks. "Penny Dreadful," the Showtime series inspired by characters from 19th-century British and Irish stories, returns for a third sea- son Sunday, May 1, on the ca- bler. Last season closed out with Ethan (Josh Hartnett, "Pearl Harbor," 2001) heading back to the United States after commit- ting some very unsavory crimes, and preparing himself to face his father's anger. View- ers will get to see that father — who is likely to be none too pleased by his son's ac- tions — this season, played by veteran actor Brian Cox ("Braveheart," 1995) in a guest-starring role. Also joining the cast are Jes- sica Barden ("Coronation Street") as a charming young assis- tant, Christian Camargo ("Dex- ter") as a friendly zoologist, Wes Studi ("Avatar," 2009) as Ethan's new pal, and Samuel Barnett ("Jupiter Ascending," 2015) as a helpful new secre- tary. "Penny Dreadful's" original stars are all returning, too. Fel- low former James Bond veter- ans Timothy Dalton ("Licence to Kill," 1989) and Eva Green ("Casino Royale," 2006) are back as Sir Malcolm Murray and Vanessa Ives, respectively, as is Billie Piper ("Doctor Who") as the monstrous Lily Frankenstein. Set in the late 1800s, "Penny Dreadful" brings together some of the characters made famous in the fiction of the era. It's a fun and frightening su- pernatural romp that spans the globe and includes characters such as Van Helsing (David Warner, "Titanic," 1997) and Dr. Victor Franken- stein (Harry Treadaway, "City of Em- ber," 2008).
