Getaway! 704-718-6953 704-718-6953 Call In the few brief months that I've been on the job as CEO of Rutherford Regional Health System I've come to develop a deep appreciation and concern for the people of this great county. As I walk the hallways of our medical center each day I encounter residents like you who want to get well and stay well. It's an honor and a privilege to be charged with operating the health system that serves Rutherford County. With that comes great responsibility – not only to treat the health issues you are facing, but to stand up and take the lead in helping all of our citizens develop healthy lifestyles and strategies for active living. That's why Rutherford Regional Health System is serving as a presenting sponsor of the Change 4 Life Expo on April 30 at The Foundation for the Performing Arts & Conference Center at Isothermal Community College. The effort, simply put, is to unite all in the county who desire to see our residents be the healthiest they can be. The Expo is being held in response to our health department's recent Community Health Needs Assessment that identifi ed your greatest health concerns in our area. You spoke boldly about the need to address tobacco use, chronic disease, and substance abuse. So, we are stepping up to the plate. But we need your help, both to attend the Expo and to commit to healthier living. The statistics are sobering. A recent study by the "County Health Rankings and Roadmaps" program revealed our county ranks 73rd out of 100 in North Carolina in overall health. And 24 percent of the Rutherford County population labels their health as fair or poor, a rate that is six percent higher than the state average. Additionally, people in our county report more poor physical and mental health days than the North Carolina average. Therefore, we felt you needed more than a health fair, so the idea for the Change 4 Life Expo was born. Our intent for the Expo is to create an air of excitement and fun around the event. We also want to showcase the opportunities this area has for recreation, fi tness, healthcare, healthy eating, weight loss, and general wellness. By including a wide variety of individuals, organizations and businesses in the Expo, our hope is to show a unifi ed and county-wide commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the Rutherford County region. We especially want the event to appeal to all ages, so the Expo will be interactive – allowing for attendees to participate in a number of fun activities throughout the event. There is a 5k run, a one-mile walk, a Kids Zone, a healthy eating stage, a weight loss challenge, and plenty of exhibitors providing great information and health screenings. The Expo was scheduled with your convenience in mind, so it will be held from 8 a.m. – noon. Our hope is that the event is such a success that it might be expanded in the future. But again, we need your help. If you have questions about eating healthier, developing an active lifestyle, addressing chronic health issues, the community resources that are available to you, or just general health and wellness, please attend. There is no cost to you, only your time. Bring a loved one or just bring yourself. The more of us who join together to commit to healthier living, the greater the results we can achieve as a county. We've heard your voice and we're responding. Partner with us to "Change 4 Life" on April 30.
