W ith each semester, we face different challenges and have new leadership to address and conquer these obstacles. New Hampshire Beta is focused on living up to the True Gentleman standard and dedicating ourselves to making a positive impact in the Durham community. The executive council is working hard to develop measurable goals for the chapter's improvement. We are optimistic about what the coming year holds and the potential of our members. CHAPTER UNDER SELF-IMPOSED SOCIAL PROBATION The year did not start as planned for New Hampshire Beta. Coming back from a long break is always an exciting time for the brothers and, unfortunately, a few members lost sight of the values of ΣΑΕ and the responsibility that comes with being a part of this great organization. Due to a few incidents that involved the Durham Police, our leadership made the decision to put ourselves on social probation until we improve our community service and philanthropic efforts. Our executive board decided that we need to change the culture of the chapter from just a social organization to one that is looked upon in a positive light by the University of New Hampshire and the Durham community. CHAPTER LEADERSHIP LOOKS TO THE FUTURE While it is unfortunate that it had to get to this point, I am very confident in the state of the chapter moving forward. As Rocky Balboa said, "It isn't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward." The response from the chapter has been overwhelmingly positive. Chapter meeting attendance is higher than I have ever seen it, and we have more than 30 brothers attending weekly philanthropy and community service meetings, including our graduating seniors. NEW EXECUTIVE COUNCIL POSITION CREATED Chapter Advisors Brett Conroy '10, Tom Johnson '75, and Dick Hooker, Vermont Beta '55 have been incredible through these struggles with taking the necessary steps to improve the chapter moving forward. Internally, we have taken a few steps as well. We have elected a bylaw committee to review and update the bylaws with a purpose of adding steps to hold brothers personally accountable for their actions. We have also added a new position to our executive council, the Greek Performance and Excellence Program (GPEP) chairman. This brother will be responsible for submitting GPEP requirements to the university to improve our standings. MEMBERS FOCUSED ON IMPROVEMENT Our focus for the remainder of the semester will be geared toward philanthropy, community service, and alumni involvement. I look forward to the challenge ahead of us, and I am extremely confident that we will grow stronger than ever. I look forward to being in contact with everyone, and please do not hesitate to reach out with any comments or questions.
