ByJulieZeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF Southbound In- terstate 5 lanes were blocked Wednesday afternoon following a crash about 3:30 p.m. between Wilcox Road and the North Main Street off-ramps. A GMC Yukon's left rear tire blew out, causing the vehicle to swerve and overturn twice, ac- cording to witnesses. According to the California Highway Patrol website, the left lane and shoulder were being used to re-open traffic and get it moving again and many vehicles used Wilcox Road as a detour. Initial scanner traffic reported four persons were evaluated for in- juries with preliminary reports of two minor and two moderate in- juries, including children. An air ambulance was on order accord- ing to scanner reports at 3:42 p.m. CRASH Crashnear Main Street offramp cuts off I-5 access The public is invited to attend the initial meeting where plans are being finalized for the con- struction of the Sher Wintle Me- morial Dog Park to be located in Trainor Park near Vista School, 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14 in the Westside Room of the Red Bluff Community Center, 1500 S. PLANNING Pu bl ic i s invited in do g pa rk planning By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF Tehama County Counsel Arthur Wylene an- nounced Tuesday at the report- able action report on an earlier closed session item that Plan- ning Director Sean Moore would no longer be with the county at the end of the month. "The Board of Supervisors on this date, April 5, 2016, have de- termined not to renew the Te- hama County Planning Direc- tor contract expiring on April 30, 2016, without cause," Wylene said. "The vote was five to zero, unan- imous." Nothing further was said in re- gards to why the contract was not renewed. Scot Timboe, formerly the Red Bluff planning director and most recently a county planner, will step in to Moore's shoes and fill in as acting planning director, Chief Administrator Bill Goodwin said. "Staff will be bringing appro- priate actions to the board to ap- point an interim planning di- rector by no later than April 19," Goodwin said. "It is anticipated that an open recruitment will be conducted for a permanent re- placement." A planning item regarding a general plan rezone public hear- ing was originally scheduled to be on the April 19 agenda, which is the date a replacement is ex- pected to be named. No word has been received on whether the 11 a.m. hearing will be re- scheduled. TEHAMA COUNTY Moore'scontractnotrenewed Supervisorsdeclinetoelaborateabout decision over planning director's position By Heather Hoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Heather on Twitter RED BLUFF Friends and fam- ily members of the Brackbill and Close families joined to- gether Saturday at Red Bluff's River Park to celebrate the life of 20-month-old Tori Brack- bill and to bring awareness to a preventable disease. Tori didn't show any signs of the disease, Krabbe Leuko- dystrophy, until she was five months old and until then she was a healthy baby girl, said her mother, Lesa Brackbill. That is when Lesa and her husband, Brennan Brackbill, found out Tori had the disease and her body would stop pro- ducing the necessary enzymes to function normally. Tori lost her battle with the disease and died March 27, Easter Sunday, at her home in Pennsylvania. Letters were signed at the memorial, which was coor- dinated by Tori's great aunt Karen Close, and were sent to the Capitol to help in the ef- forts to make screening for the disease a requirement at birth in the state. "Every baby is screened for a variety of diseases at birth, this would just be something to add to the process," Lesa said. "The states that screen for Krabbe include New York, Missouri and Kentucky." States that have passed leg- islation but have not yet im- plemented screening, as of March, are Illinois, Pennsyl- vania, Tennessee, New Jersey, Ohio and New Mexico, accord- ing to information on the dis- ease passed out at the memo- rial. Through sending letters and informing the commu- nity the Brackbills hope their efforts will make a difference.
