Gaining a New Perspective
Chapter Welcomes New House Director
W
hen Michael Graise first came to Washington
State as an undergraduate to play football,
he determined that joining a fraternity was not for
him. Now, as the new house director for Washington
Beta, he is gaining a new perspective of what being
a fraternity man means.
"I've learned to appreciate what ΣΑΕ stands for and
the caliber of men in this fraternity," he shares. At
the beginning of the year, Michael took over the
position and responsibilities of house director.
Primarily, he is in charge of ensuring that house
operations run smoothly and that our members
have a safe and functional place to live. He is
grateful for the chapter house staff that have helped
him adjust to the new role.
Michael was initially drawn to the position because
of his previous coaching experience. "I saw it as
a new challenge to make an impact and guide
the lives of young men in college." He has spent
several years coaching football at Pullman High
School, an experience that is not unlike guiding the
men of Washington Beta. "I want to help make their
experiences and lives better. I want them to leave
the university as True Gentlemen."
So far, his favorite experience has been getting to
know the members and learning about their lives. "They've really changed my perception
of what it means to be in a fraternity. I see how they make a positive impact in the
community and how they hold each other accountable. They are really trying to better
themselves as young men in society." Michael plans to start a Madden tournament in
the coming months to foster healthy competition and camaraderie among the members.
One of Michael's observations from his time with the chapter has been the need for
alumni support. He recognizes that alumni are valuable assets to the chapter and can
help further the mission of ΣΑΕ. "Alumni support and guidance is important to continuing
the tradition and legacy of Washington Beta." He encourages alumni to reach out to the
chapter and get involved any way they can.
When he is not at the chapter house, Michael is working as a caregiver at Bishop Senior
Living or coaching at Pullman High. He has a 7-year-old son, Julian, who lives in the
area. If you would like to get in contact with Michael, or learn how you can get involved
with Washington Beta, you can e-mail him at mikegraise78@gmail.com.
