B
rian Dickey '06, former chapter president of Cal Delta, earned a degree in public administration. He is now a production operator with Chevron
North America, monitoring a string of approximately 350 wells and responsible for permitting, oversight of maintenance work and new
construction, and ensuring the production efficiency of those wells.
We've asked Brian to tell us about his Cal Delta experience and what SigEp has meant in his life.
Why did you join SigEp?
SigEp was the only house I went to during
recruitment. Every member who I met
throughout the week, I meshed with. It
immediately felt like it could be a home away
from home.
What sense of pride did you gain as a
member?
I found pride in seeing our chapter rise
from a mediocre, run-of-the-mill fraternity
to a respected and distinguished student
organization. I knew that the success of the
chapter was built on the foundations of prior
years' recruitment, discipline, and community
awareness.
Were there any alumni who had a positive
impact on you?
The leadership and guidance of Ron Smith
'69, Skip Dahlkamp '64, Bob Trovaten '67,
Dan Whalen '69, and the rest of the AVC had
a tremendous impact on the chapter—from
treatment of the house to handling disciplinary
issues. Their hands-on involvement over
the long haul is a great resource for all
undergraduates to tap into during trying times.
How do you think the fraternity helped you
become who you are today?
SigEp has 100% shaped the person I am
today in that it is the greatest teamwork and
character-building exercise I have ever been
involved with. It teaches you how to deal
with people from all walks of life, set goals,
and overcome differences to achieve those
goals. At Carlson Leadership Academy and
Conclave, I met members from other chapters,
learned management skills, organization
capabilities, and time management.
Brian met his wife, Jenna, while serving as chapter president. The couple has two children, Peyton and Connor, and lives in Bakersfield, California.
Brian spends his time with his family and enjoys biking, running, playing sports, and hunting. The family enjoys traveling to the beach, making the trip
several times each summer. He can be reached at dickey_b@hotmail.com.
