EXPLORE YOUR PARKS Your Guide to Marin County Parks & Programs SPRING 2016 F or over 40 years, Marin County Parks has served to keep Marin extraordinary. We protect and steward about 20,000 acres including 34 open space preserves, 3,500 acres of conservation easements, 250 miles of trail, 4 regional parks, dozens of neighborhood parks, over 12 miles of multiuse pathways, and 2 boat ramps. We also offer a variety of free events, interpretive outings, and activities. In Marin County Parks, you can hike, picnic, fi sh, mountain bike, ride a horse, kayak, swim, walk the dog, volunteer, and much more! In 2012, Marin County voters showed their passion for public lands by passing Measure A, otherwise known as the Marin Parks, Open Space, and Farmland Preservation Transactions and Use Tax Ordinance. Sixty-fi ve percent of this one-quarter cent retail transactions and use tax goes to Marin County Parks to restore natural resources, maintain county parks and open space preserves, restore and improve public access, and protect natural lands. We are completing four new Master Plans for our regional parks, including exciting new facility development to provide for the diverse needs of our residents, and we will be exploring funding options for the improvements envisioned by the plans. Many impressive achievements are either happening or in the works here at Marin County Parks. We'd like to share some of those highlights with you. It is our vision that Marin County Parks embodies a culture of government transparency, openness to new ideas, and inclusivity within our parks and preserves. It is in the spirit of that vision that we offer this publication to the citizens and visitors of Marin County.
