Bealer was arrested in 2013 and charged with the murder of 14-year-old Marysa Nichols, who had gone missing Feb. 26. 2013. Nichols' body was found Feb. 28, 2013 about a half-mile behind the campus of Red Bluff Union High School. Red Bluff Police released video surveillance of the area at the time Nichols was last seen and Bealer was identified on March 1, 2013 as a person of interest identified in the video. Bealer turned himself in to speak with police and was arrested and charged with murder on March 2 after be- ing interviewed. "It's been continued, so to speak, for about a week and a half," Cohen said. "We're going to begin picking a jury on (April) 18th and we an- ticipate beginning to listen to testimony on the 20th." Cohen gave kudos to Tehama County Counsel Arthur Wylene and his team, with Wylene giving credit to Deputy County Counsel Sarah Dickin- son, who made multiple trips to Sacramento on the county's behalf. By Heather Hoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Heather on Twitter RED BLUFF The 15th annual PATH Dinner and Auction was held Satur- day at High Point Assembly to raise funds for the local winter shelter serv- ing the homeless. PATH, or the Poor And The Home- less Tehama County Coalition, pro- vides shelter for those in need with the location rotating between several local churches. The dinner raised about $20,000, said Pam Klein, dinner coordinator. It was the biggest dinner ever with more than 300 people in attendance. The funds that were raised will go toward continuing the efforts to keep shelter open. The winter shelter is open each year from Nov. 1 through April 30 and costs about $50,000 for the six months. At the event Klein, along with Presi- dent Allene Dering, honored long time volunteers and board members Chris- tine Shults and Wes and Judy Crane. The dinner's special guest and key- note speaker, Debbie Bowen, was next up to share her success story. She spoke of her time at a PATH shelter and how it has changed her life. A position become available as a su- pervisor at a local shelter and Bowen decided to apply for it, she said. She later got the job and said it has been the most rewarding experience. The PATH program and being the shelter supervisor has really turned Bowen's life around, she said, after mentioning she has spent a quarter of her life in prison. She is now passion- ate about the work she is doing. A PATH graduate and now board member Andrea Lafferty said Bowen has made such a huge transformation from who she was when she first came to PATH. "Now Bowen has touched so many lives and has made a huge difference to all around her," Lafferty said. For more information on PATH, visit redbluffpath.org.
