Candlelight Page 2 T he fall semester was very successful for Pi Kappa Alpha. We initiated 25 of the best men Purdue has to offer. Grades increased for the fourth semester in a row from a 2.82 last spring to a 2.91 GPA. Through our annual Fireman's Challenge philanthropy, we were able to raise $4,200 for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. This placed us ninth out of 41 fraternities in philanthropy dollars raised. In addition, due to our weekly participation volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club of Lafayette, our brothers traveling on mission trips, Purdue University Dance Marathon, and many other philanthropy and community service events, we put in 2,098 community service hours. This placed us in second among all fraternities at Purdue. I could not be happier with the effort and time brothers put in to help us reach this ranking. This spring promises to be just as, if not more, successful. The beginning of the semester has brought lots of change as eight of our 10 executive board members have had no prior executive experience. This is very much the result of the torch being passed to younger classes, that are bringing lots of energy and ideas to their new positions. We currently have 14 promising new members being educated in the ways of Pi Kappa Alpha. We are continuing our philanthropic work by participating in Purdue's Relay for Life to raise money for the American Cancer Society, and have raised more than $1,500 already, placing us first among fraternities and second among all Greek participants. This semester, I hope to again increase our GPA while continuing our dominance philanthropically on campus. Alumni can donate by April 8 to our Relay for Life team by visiting https://goo.gl/t7iHvw.
