I hope this newsletter finds you and your families well as we launch into 2016! We look forward to a great year for the chapter. It has been a pretty slow year as far as the Shelter is concerned. We had some repairs and minor issues fixed. We plan to do many upgrades and maintenance this summer, including landscaping, new fencing, paint and trim work to the outside of the Shelter, and an overall upgrade to the exterior. As always, the chapter could use your help with volunteering time and/or donations. Zeta Sigma continues to grow and do well, leading in many categories from grades to membership numbers. Delt is now cemented as one of the top fraternities on campus and has been for some time. Please see the save the dates on page 4 for key events this semester and summer. Everyone is always invited to join us to see the progress and lend a helping hand to the chapter, Shelter projects, and many programs. I want to thank the actives and alumni who do their part in keeping the chapter moving forward and maintaining the Shelter and grounds. It is a lot of work and is much appreciated. Involvement, no matter how much or little time you might have to give, all adds up. I hope to see many of you at one of our upcoming events. Fraternally, Chad Kauffman '93 House Corporation President ckauffman01@gmail.com Thomas Morrison '06 Applies His Delt Experience to Life After College A s an undergraduate, Thomas Morrison '06 says that the best thing about his Delt experience was the people he met. Coming from Center, Texas, where the population is a little more than 5,000 residents, Thomas was excited to meet people from all different backgrounds and to try new experiences. "After moving to College Station, it was overwhelming trying to find people that had similar interests and it was nice to be able to find a group like Delta Tau Delta that made me feel welcomed," Thomas said. One of those people was Peter Kramer '04, Thomas' big. Peter helped influence him to join the chapter, which led him to new ways to get involved. Zeta Sigma opened Thomas up to new opportunities, some that were more influential than classwork. He served as brotherhood chairman and internal vice president. During his time with the chapter, the brothers were motivated to purchase land and a new Shelter. Thomas says that this was a great learning experience. "We learned about finances, managing a budget, and planning," he said. "Things that most college-aged kids are not prepared for." Today, Thomas is the director of marketing of Portacool, LLC, a company that manufactures portable evaporative coolers, located in Center, Texas. In his role, he oversees many different aspects of marketing, including sponsorships, product development, brand management, and managing advertising and public relations campaigns in multiple countries. Portacool products are sold in 56 countries, and this year, the company will release five new products, an ambitious goal as Thomas says. But without ambition, Thomas wouldn't be where he is today. His advice to young men starting their careers is to be willing to work hard, pay your dues, and prove yourself. "The main tip I can give anyone for their first couple years out of school is that hard work covers up any lack of knowledge, and work ethic is one of the most valuable things that an employer looks for," Thomas says. "You have to be willing to outwork the next guy!" Thomas lives in Center, Texas, with his Brittany spaniel, Red. He gets together with many brothers from his undergraduate years for hunting and fishing trips. Working for Portacool allows him to frequently travel and he will often meet up with brothers all over the country. He enjoys playing music and recently traveled to Houston to play with Jess Wilson '08. Thomas can be reached at thomasemorrison@gmail.com.
