The lion's roar C oming from a small town of approximately 110 people, Stacey Gentry '89 knew that he wanted to be a part of something bigger than himself. Fortunately, Stacey knew members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Indiana State University that offered him the support and brotherhood he needed to survive the unfamiliar territory of college. "If I wouldn't have joined, then I probably wouldn't have stayed in college," Stacey said. His involvement in the Indiana Sigma Chapter also forced him to shift his focus outward from himself and onto other people in his life. In addition to having the support of his brothers, Stacey had many alumni and upperclassmen present who were role models for him and his brothers. When he moved into the Chapter house, there were two men in particular whom Stacey looked up to—former Chapter President Terry Barnes '85 and Robert Hawkins '87, who served as pledge educator. "They were very strong role models, and they are still close friends of mine," he said. While Stacey was an undergraduate member, he and several of his brothers and little sisters were studying graphic design, which helped keep him on pace and on the path to graduation. Stacey used his keen graphic design eye to design and decorate their Homecoming floats each year and even helped the undergraduate members with their float for Homecoming 2015. He graduated with a computer graphic design and photography degree and utilizes that degree with his photography business, Beaux Arts Photography, as well as by designing kitchens and bathrooms. Since graduating, Stacey has stayed well- connected to the Chapter and became the Chapter advisor during fall 2015. He is proud of the active Chapter's accomplishments and looks forward to helping them succeed in the future. His position has allowed him to keep in contact with Indiana Sigma members from all generations, but he stays particularly close with the brothers he lived with in the Chapter house. Stacey encourages alumni who may have lost touch to reach out to a brother or two. "You'll pick up right where you left off," he said. Stacey also encourages alumni to visit the local Chapter and meet the young men who are carrying on their legacy. "Come back and meet the men who are following in our footsteps," he stated. When Stacey isn't busy with his photography business, graphic design, and Chapter advisor duties, he enjoys working in his yard, kayaking on the lake, grilling delicious food, and photographing his culinary masterpieces to share on Facebook. "I've got lifelong friends from SAE and they're a huge part of my life and my family." If you'd like to reconnect with Stacey, he can be reached via e-mail at gentrystacey66@hotmail.com. Indiana Sigma Offered Supportive Brotherhood and Lifelong Friendships for Stacey Gentry '89 John Webb '91 and Stacey Gentry '89 at Homecoming 2015. They have been close friends since they were undergraduate members of Indiana Sigma. I am pleased to extend an opportunity for you contribute in a meaningful way to the Indiana Sigma Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon by becoming a member of the Chapter's Alumni Advisory Board. I'm asking for an investment, not of money but of your time, that will pay dividends in the development of the True Gentlemen that make up your Chapter. The Alumni Advisory Board members are the key alumni volunteers responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and support to the collegiate Chapter, ensuring the Chapter's strong health and continued growth. The Alumni Advisory Board and its member training are organized around the 12 core areas of Chapter operations: • Chapter Management • Leadership • Service/Philanthropy • Alumni Relations • Recruitment • Ritual There is no set number of members for the Alumni Advisory Board, and you do not need to live in Terre Haute or the surrounding area. With today's technology, all you need is a desire to have a positive impact on a group poised to grow and do great things on Indiana State's campus and in the Terre Haute community. By volunteering on an Alumni Advisory Board, you will help enrich the lives of the Chapter members and make the Chapter stronger. Please contact me if you would be willing to serve on the Indiana Sigma Chapter Alumni Advisory Board. I look forward to hearing from you!
