OMICRONICLE Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi H University of Alabama H Winter 2016 N ow is an exciting time to be a Pi Kappa Phi at UA. The new Chapter House is absolutely stunning and will house generations of Pi Kappa Phi Brothers. This amazing achievement would not have been possible without the support of our loyal Brothers. Thank you for helping us to raise $1.7 million for this project. With the campaign ended, we are now able to direct our energies elsewhere. Our biggest obstacle during the campaign was that most Brothers had lost contact with the Chapter, and the campaign committee determined that this situation ought to be rectified. An ad hoc committee was tasked with creating an alumni organization and suggested it be called the Omicron Alumni Organization. The organization's purposes will be to: q Facilitate contact among Brothers q Organize social events q Create mentoring relationships between alumni and younger Brothers Brothers contributing $1,000 or more are charter members. Other Brothers may join OAO by requesting membership using the enclosed reply card. Each OAO member is urged to pledge at least $200 to the University of Alabama Pi Kappa Phi building fund (using the enclosed form or by visiting uapikappaphi.com). Each member will receive a custom lapel pin and a password to the Omicron Alumni Organization's website. This site will allow members to submit stories or photos, review an events calendar, and update contact information. The website will also permit members to post job opportunities and resumes. We believe that utilizing the e-mail and social media resources available to us will fix the lack of communication among Brothers. Another focus of the organization will be to provide opportunities for alumni to assist young Brothers in their careers. We are planning an annual banquet and leadership weekend for alumni to connect with and provide guidance to junior and senior undergraduate members. We are also planning to host a formal graduation ceremony, during which graduates will be initiated into OAO. Our alumni are uniquely situated to provide appropriate guidance to Brothers just entering the workplace and we encourage you to take this opportunity to help a younger Brother in a meaningful way. Steve Smith '83, Seth Chapman '84, and several others organized two events in Birmingham. Plans are underway for another get together this year. Jimmy May '71 hosted a successful Texas A&M game watching party in Mobile. Because we have a more complete e-mail than ever, we easily create more of these opportunities in the future. We need Brothers who want to participate in fellowship, mentoring, and events. If you are interested in volunteering in any way or staying in touch with these efforts, contact either of us at the information listed below or on Facebook. A large, connected alumni group will provide lasting benefits for all Brothers. Please share our excitement in this next step for Omicron Chapter.
