Like clockwork the last few years, May is the month that seems to usher in the first blast of Summer heat. Used to be that waited until June. Late this week fea- tures a "Bermuda" high offshore, pumping in above normal heat from the unusually warm Gulf. Unfortunately there's not a lot of rain for most folks, thanks to warm temps going all the way up to cloud level. This is called a "cap" in meteo- rology. It takes a lot of rising motion to break through the cap, and until the upper levels cool down, it's hard to gener- ate showers. There will be some though, and the closer to the mountains or higher elevations of upper Rutherford and upper Cleveland, the better your chance at seeing some liquid gold. The good news is that later next week, I see a front coming into the area and maybe stalling, so we could start to get into a wetter pattern then. And it certainly looks much cooler as we head toward the second and third weeks of the month. Now if we could get some widespread rain to go along with the cooler weather, we'd be in business!
