Recently they donated $57,372 to enhance the care at the hospital. Most notably, the donation will be used to purchase new televisions for patient rooms and equipment for the Physical Therapy Depart- ment. "Without the generous dona- tions from the hospital auxiliary, the physical the Physical Therapy Department would not have much of the state of the art equipment that it has today. We are incred- ibly thankful," says Alvin Rodgers, LPRH Physical Therapist. To date, the Hospital Auxiliary volunteers have donated over $2 million to the hospital to support many pro- grams and update much needed equipment. The Hospital Auxiliary is a special group ranging in age from mid 40s to 102! You probably know them best as the volunteers that run the Auxiliary Thrift Shop in Parker which sells over 100,000 gently used items each year, most for around $1.00. The majority of the hospital contributions from the auxiliary come from the thrift shop revenues. You can also visit them in the gift shop within the hospital that offers patients, families and staff spe- cialty and boutique items, candy, jewelry and most important, a kind smile and empathetic con- versation. Aside from their work in the gift shop, you'll also find them assisting emergency staff with patient flow and turnaround, delivering supplies, running the cafeteria register, stuffing enve- lopes, guiding patients throughout the hospital and so much more. Community members interested in pursuing a career in the medi- cal field should stop by the Hu- man Resources Department to pick up an application for the Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship. They are always taking new ap- plications and scholarships are awarded on an as needed basis. Since 2002, 70 scholarships have been awarded for a total of al- most $110,000. The scholarship committee hopes that recipients will use their education to better Hospital volunteers give back their community in La Paz County, though that is not a criteria. A commissioner of Veterans Af- fairs was once quoted saying, "Volunteering is at the very core of being human. No one has made it through life without someone else's help." La Paz Regional would certainly find day-to-day services more difficult without them and we are so grateful for their support.
