All I need is a chocolate football draped in gold wrapped choco- late beads placed on a large heart- shaped chocolate platter and I'll be happy. Oh, if that only were true! Happiness does not come so easy sometimes. Society is moving at a faster pace more than ever and it's not easy to keep up. Some people get caught up focusing on the negative in life. It's easy to become addicted to an- ger and the rush of adrenaline that accompanies the emotion. Just listen to the nightly news, presidential candidates, or even customers at the local cafe, and you'll hear chocolate is not the topic of preference. People are frustrated and angry over various issues; ev- erything from their neighbor driv- LETTERS TO EDITOR POLICY Desert Messenger encourages letters from its readers. Looking forward to seeing our Friends! So I'd like to thank Rick Van Drusen and Ken Hoffman for technical advice. To Best Auto for trying, at least, to fi gure out why my van wouldn't start (electrical short.) And for installing a new ignition for the cost of parts and a "Merry Christmas." Thank you to Don, who's proba- bly the best friend I've had in ages, who gave me jump starts, rides, etc. and for trying to install a new fuel pump. And to Jim, who did, saving me a mechanic's fee. And who explained why anti-freeze was leaking and why the engine was spewing black smoke. To Bernie, Jean Stiers, for loaning their jack. And to Pete, Sue Rothberg , for jump starts and for listening. And Troy, who sensed I needed the work done promptly, not in a 10- day or 2-week interval. And who did a great job and acted like he actually cared. Because of what I've survived in the past 10 years, I'd pretty much given up on people. But these folks have proved there's still genuine kindness in the world. And it's not all money "greed." Christina Blair, Quartzsite LETTERS FROM PAGE 7 All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt. Charles M. Schulz ing too fast to government being too involved in their lives, or not iinvolved enough. But then comes Valentine's Day and they try to get in touch with their gentle spirit just days after yelling at the fl at screen TV when their team lost the Super Bowl. We really are an interesting species when you think about it. We can move quickly through emo- tions...when we want, but at other times, aggressive behavior can cause road rage incidents, drive by shootings or even suicide. It's that time of year when expec- tation of "being in love" can create additional stress. So, just take some time to enjoy the little gifts in your life, such as your fl uffy little com- panion and of course, some good chocolate. Savor the moments of watching the sun rising or setting. Then go inside and have a chocolate football draped in gold wrapped chocolate beads placed on a large heart-shaped chocolate platter and smile! Have a little gratitude, too.
