"Positive anything is better than negative nothing." ~ Elbert Hubbard Pamela Caskey, Basket Artist (left) and winner, Sherry Harned, hold the basket raffl ed to benefi t the Quartzsite Hero Program. During the Quartzsite Im- provement Assoc. (QIA) 50th Anniversary Gem & Mineral Show, Pamela Caskey held a raffl e at her booth for Opera- tion Hero Comfort, a local non- profi t supporting military units overseas. The on-of-a-kind basket she offered for the raffl e is woven with grasses including walnut shells, beads and the cen- ter is a metal that reads "THANK YOU FOR SERVING." Caskey said, "I would like to thank all those who purchased tickets for the basket I raffl ed off to help with Operation Hero Comfort. The total raised in the raffl e was $202.00 and it was my pleasure to turn all the funds over to Anita Carlson so she can have it to help with the mailing of the packages to all those brave men and women in harm's way. "The winner of the basket was Sherry Harned, a 14-year veteran RN, who was in the Air Force, and after that she served in the National Guard. She and her husband Tim had the Bustin Glass and Minerals vending space across from me at the Pow Wow. They live in Southern Calif. and have a son who is in the USMC. Many thanks to Anita for all she does to run and manage this proj- ect and her continued dedication to the cause."
