His clients include Eddie Murphy, John Lithgow, Cedric the Entertainer, Jerry Rice and baseball great Ken Griffey, Jr. A former sculptor, Heston brings an architectural sensibility to his robust and muscular designs. With layered textural interest, Heston combines gold, silver, rubber and leather into rugged creations for a unique and masculine look. What inspires your work? Since I was a kid, my favorite things have been sports and art. I think a lot of what I do is about lifestyle – being comfortable with what you do and wearing what feels good. What you can live in. I'm outdoors a lot. I love to ski and mountain bike and my jewelry fi ts this lifestyle. I create jewelry that is rugged enough to wear every day. My pieces actually look better as they age and become part of your identity. Why did you start making jewelry for men, and how has your style evolved over the years? I design things I really like, something I'd like to wear. In the late 80s I was designing women's jewelry but my designs have always been big, bold pieces that could be considered unisex. Men started to be interested in my work and there were not many other options out there so I decided to give it a try. Pretty quickly I was working with the buyer at Neiman Marcus and focused almost exclusively on men's jewelry. As the industry changed, more men became interested in jewelry beyond a watch, a wedding ring, and cuffl inks. My brand offered a rugged, masculine alternative. What do you like to wear? I like to wear a necklace and a bracelet all the time and I'm married, so of course I wear my ring! I also have a few signature pieces that are favorites.
