It was fun to relax and spend time with family during Christmas break. Sadly, we now have to hang up our Santa hats and dust off our books for school. Nevertheless, we have at least one student who has embraced her return to school. The student of the month for December deserves recognition for her hard work and dedication: congratula- tions, Rhiyanna Timberlake! January is a great month for basket- ball games! This Thursday, January 14, we play San Pasqual at home, and then we play Tonopah at home on January 22. All home games will begin at 2:30 p.m. with the JV Girls followed by JV Boys, then Varsity Girls at 5 p.m. and finish up with the Varsity Boys at 7 p.m. Saturday, January 23, our teams play away at Salome High updates Rancho Solano with the JV starting at 11 a.m. and the Varsity starting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 26 the teams will play at Mayer beginning at 2:30 p.m. and running the usual schedule. Finally, the Varsity boys will play the last game of January at NFL Yet on Friday, January 29 at 7 p.m. The FBLA will be attending the Re- gion Four Conference at Estrella Community College. They will be competing in various events with hopes of advancing to the state-lev- el conference. The Freshman class will be having a soup dinner on Feb- ruary 12. The Sophomore class will be selling flowers throughout the week before Valentine's day. Addi- tionally, Sophomores will continue to host baseball and softball conces- sions this spring. Let them know if you have requests for new items. The Junior class is still selling ta- males and will be selling cookie- dough soon, so get your orders in. The Senior class has earned enough money to go on their trip, and we wish them luck and a good time! Welcome Back Volunteers! Ironwood St., Quartzsite Carbon Monoxide kills Here's some more advice specific to RV's, as suggested by the website Carbon Monoxide Kills 1. Inspect your RV's chassis and generator exhaust system regularly, at least before each outing and after bot- toming out or any other incident that could cause damage. 2. Inspect the RV for openings in the floor or sidewalls. If you locate a hole, seal it with a silicone adhesive or have it repaired before using your genera- tor again. 3. Inspect windows, door seals, and weather strips to ensure that they are sealing properly. 4. Yellow flames in propane-burn- ing appliances such as coach heaters, stoves, ovens, and water heaters usu- ally indicate a lack of oxygen. Deter- mine the cause of this condition and correct it immediately. 5. If applicable, have your built-in vacuum cleaner checked to make sure it does not exhaust under the un- derside of your RV. Have the system changed if it does. 6. Do not operate your generator if the exhaust system is damaged in any way or if an unusual noise is present. 7. Park your RV so that the exhaust may easily dissipate away from the vehicle. Do not park next to high grass or weeds, snowbanks, buildings, or other obstructions that might prevent exhaust gases from dissipating as they should. 8. Keep in mind that shifting winds may cause exhaust to blow away from the coach one moment and under the coach the next. 9. When stopping for long periods of time, be aware of other vehicles around you, such as tractor-trailers at rest stops, that may have their engines and refrigerators running. 10. Do not sleep with the generator operating. 11. Leave a roof vent open anytime the generator is running, even during the winter. 12. If you do not feel well, do not be fooled into thinking that it is because you have been driving too long, you ate too much, or you are suffering from motion sickness. Shut off the generator and step outside for some fresh air just to be sure. www.carbonmonoxidekills.com Quartzsite Events Online: www.QuartzsiteCalendar.com
