he year of 2015 will be finished when you read this column.
CityView will be celebrating our 10th year in business in several
months and it has been by the grace of God we have been here that
long. Our staff still amazes me with their expertise.
This issue has some great stories for your entertainment. Our fea-
ture is a great idea by our editor, Miriam Landru. She and another
one of our writers, Taylor Aube, featured the cross country coach
at Methodist University, an OB/GYN doctor in Fayetteville and a well-known
yoga instructor in town. It's a timeline of their busy, yet prosperous days.
Our Giving story is all about a special charitable organization in town that
I helped start and where I also sit on the board. It helps homeless women
and children connect with providers and gives them a place to go during the
daytime.
I also lent my writing talents to this issue. I wrote a special story about when
famous golfer Arnold Palmer played a match in Fayetteville in 1950. He was
just on the cusp of being famous. He won the US Amateur a few years after
this match and then the Masters Golf tournament in 1958 which was his first
of many major golf championships. The story is more about how this match
occurred and how local retired insurance executive Harvey Oliver played a
part in the game.
Our main focus in this issue is on health and wellness, which we all get
concerned about recommitting ourselves to at the beginning of a new year.
