Red Bluff Daily News barrel racing Barrel racing is just that — a race against time in a cloverleaf patter around three barrels set up in the arena. A rider can choose to begin the cloverleaf pattern to the right or left. The time begins when the horse and rider cross the predetermined start line and stops when they come back across the same line. Each run is timed to the hundredths of a second, making every fraction of a second count. Each tipped- over barrel adds a five-second penalty to the time. Although barrel racing is one of seven events common to most PRCA-sanctioned rodeos, it is administered the Women's Professional Rodeo Association. 2011 Wednesday, April 18, 2012 2011 Round-Up World Champ Page 11 2012 Money Leader Christina Richman won a close competition by .08 seconds with a two- run time of 35.0. Richman lives in Glendora and set a California circuit record with $33,282 in winnings last year in 18 rodeos. She qualified for her second consecutive NFR. Lindsay Sears won her second world title in 2011. She has won the Red Bluff Round-Up twice (2006, 2009). She topped $1 million in career earnings in 2010 and has qualified for the NFR six times. Carlee Pierce quali- fied for her first NFR in 2011. The Texas cowgirl won 10 titles last year and is leading the 2012 standings. Her mother Danita Walker, who excelled as a youth in Nevada, got Pierce involved in the sport.
