She had been studying musical theater in Los Angeles when she went to an open casting call for the NBC telecast the day after she returned to New York, and in one of those magical stories that show business still can create, she got the part and a star was born. Though "The Wiz" will be returning to the Broadway stage in the new year, there was no confirmation as of press time as to whether Wil- liams would return with it. Many critics — and cer- tainly a lot of viewers, as so- cial media confirmed — were quite taken with the way she held her own opposite such seasoned "Wiz" stars as Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, David Alan Grier and Steph- anie Mills, so it's pretty much a given that this is just the beginning for Williams. Q : Where is the "Crimi- nal Minds" spinoff that was talked about for this season? — Peter David, Columbus, Ohio A : It's coming. CBS has set it for a March 2 debut, and it will run on Wednes- days right after the parent show, which introduced it in an episode that aired last season (and likely will be re- peated again before the new series premieres). Former "CSI: NY" star Gary Sinise will return to procedural-show duty as the leader of a team that probes cases extending outside of America. Though "Breaking Bad" alum Anna Gunn was in that introductory story, she won't be in the weekly program. However, added to the cast is Alana De La Garza, who started the current television season with a couple of guest appearances on "Scorpion." She has a "CSI" connection herself, having played Horatio Caine's (David Caruso) ill-fat- ed wife on "CSI: Miami." Q : Can you please tell me if "Galavant" will be back? — Dottie DeFino, Port St. Lucie, Fla. A : It will, and very soon. Season 2 of the ABC mu- sical-comedy series will start a limited run — the same sort Season 1 had — on Jan. 3. There will be plenty of "Gala- vant" that weekend, since the night before, the network plans to run a mini-marathon of four episodes from the first round to reintroduce viewers to the show's concept.
