Jerry and his father moved to California when he was 15. He learned to fl y an air- plane when he was 18 and received his pilot license to fl y. In 1949 he married Greta Thomas and they had two children, Jim and Cherrie, and one grandson, Jared. In 1951 he joined the Army and was stationed in Korea, where he fl ew an observation airplane (L19). He later was transferred to the Army Reserves and was Honorably discharged from the Army in 1956. He then moved to McCloud, Cali- fornia, where he worked for the McCloud lumber mill for several years. Jerry had a J-5 Piper Cub airplane and he helped construct the McCloud airstrip. He also fl ew a crop dusting plane but the spray made him very sick and he spent several days in the hospital. Jerry moved to the Sacramento, California area, where he was employed by the Teichert & Sons construction company, and was a member of the Operating Engi- neers Local #3 for 25 years. He loved to fl y and during those years he owned four airplanes. He fl ew all over the western part of the United States and loved taking his family to a fl y-in breakfast or an air show. Jerry founded the Southwest Stinson Flying Club, which later became The International Stinson Club, and was a lifetime member. After he retired he returned to Mc- Cloud, California. He was an avid golfer and won many tournaments. He owned a small boat and loved to fi sh, spending many hours fi shing with his son and grandson. A friend taught him how to play the guitar in his late teens and he sang his fi rst solo at the age of 18. Jerry played and sang in many bands before coming to Quartzsite. He started coming to the Pow Wow in 1973 before his retirement. In 1993, he started spending his win- ters in Quartzsite and played and sang with many bands and music jams in Quartzsite, and was the MC of several. He formed 2 bands of his own, "My Band", and "Jerry and Friends" and was always happy to play a benefi t. One was Celia's Rainbow Gar- dens, and another was the Party in the Park. He played bass for 8 years with the "Barefoot and Boots" band and was just starting to play with "Bob Anderson West- ern Strings" band at the time of his passing. He married "the love of his life", Donna Stamper in 2014. Survivors are his son Jim/Annie, grandson Jared, daughter Cherrie/ Ron, and wife Donna. As explained by the Team's Chair- person Lynda Goldberg, people will be able to take their Passports to "stampable" events and attrac- tions around the county.
