Jon Krutar '66 and Pete Rasmussen '65 Joanna Lester, Ted Rieke '64, and Pat Romberg Ted Rieke '64 and Bob Hoffman '65 Dave Hafer '64, Carey Smith '68, and Jon Krutar '66 L ast August, over 80 brothers, wives, significant others, and little sisters gathered for our alumni reunion in Big Fork, Montana. These reunions have been going on since the '80s when John Bailey '65 and Gordie Smith '65 decided it would be fun to get everyone together. At first, we did it every five years, but the last three or four reunions have been at three-year intervals since we have had so much fun. Ted Rieke '65 hosted Friday night's event at his home on the Flathead River near the Eagle Bend Golf Course in Big Fork. Ted generously offered to have the event catered and had tables, chairs, and canopies set up on the lawn. The food was set up on the patio when all of a sudden a 70mph wind blew away the canopies, but the food, drinks, and folks all moved inside and we didn't skip a beat. The stories get better, the conversations get louder, and the smiles get bigger. The food was out of sight. I think some brothers would still be there if we hadn't shut off the lights. Saturday's lunch was at the Marina Cay resort and the folks that weren't there on Friday night were able to join us Saturday. We were joined by 10 of our undergraduate members, including Nate Hovsepian '16, who brought us up-to-date on what's happening at 1120 Gerald. We held a silent auction of items donated by our brothers and raised $2,400 that the house corporation used immediately to buy a new commercial refrigerator and a new dishwasher for the kitchen. This opportunity to see old friends and remember the good times will continue the next time we meet for our 90th anniversary of the founding of Montana Beta during Homecoming 2017, and again in 2018 for the next '60s reunion. If you haven't had the chance to reconnect with your pledge brothers recently, then reach out and catch up or plan a reunion. Hopefully it will remind you that we are all brothers for life, not just during our college years.
