By Joanne Winer The 19th Annual Celia's Rain- bow Gardens Spaghetti dinner was another success again this year, in spite of less people com- ing out for the event. This was mainly because some of the funding to help pay for the things needed to put on the dinner was from a Thrivent Action Team gift card, which paid for a lot of the food items needed for the dinner. We would like to thank all the volunteers from Thrivent and the Q.I.A. for helping with the dinner- -serving, bussing, taking tickets, cleaning up, etc. You all did a great job. A special thanks to the Boy Scouts--Jack McElwain, Cobey and Jack Hager, and Kyle Grasser for helping bus tables during the serving of dinner--they were a huge help. Would also like to thank Rich- ard Trusty and Terry Bashore for all their help in the kitchen mak- ing cakes and cooking spaghetti and serving as well--couldn't have done it without you!! Also thanks to Tony and Cee Carnevale for all their help, and a special thanks to Sandy and Howard Andreas- son and Arlea Long for their help as well. Nancy and Chuck did the bread again this year and new vol- unteer Linda McIntyre also pitched in. Volunteers from Thrivent were also there to help, and all the vol- unteers deserve a big thank you for everything!!! A special thanks to Barefoot and Boots Band for their great country music--they have played at our functions for many years now and always do a great job. Paul played some boogie woogie piano accompanied by Ralph Martin on one-string washtub bass. They all put on a great evening of music for everyone to enjoy. Unfortunately, one of our favorite rhythm guitar players who was supposed to be there to play with Paul didn't show up-- Jerry Mullins has been doing my spaghetti dinners and parties in the park for over 15 years, and it was strange that he didn't show up or call. We found out a few days after the dinner that Jerry had passed away quite suddenly the night after the dinner. What a shock to all of us who knew and loved him--he will be very much missed by everyone. There will be a story in the next issue of the Messenger about him and his life here in Quartzsite where he played for the last 30+ years. Look for it in the next edition! Thanks also to everyone who came out and showed your sup- port for the Gardens by joining us for this annual event--we have so much work to do in the Gardens and the funds raised from this event will really help us work on the Hero's Area in the Gardens.
