INSIDE: Thank You, Alumni • 2 Gamma Theta Prepares for Renovations • 3 Chapter Officers • 4 Welome, New Members • 4 ALPHA TAU OMEGA • UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-LINCOLN • FALL 2015 A s the holidays near, it is wonderful to reflect on how many lives Gamma Theta Chapter has affected over the years. Many men have passed through the front door of our chapter house and gone on to do great things for our families and communities. As active members, we learned the values of respect, friendship, leadership, and so much more. The house was a place we all came together to utilize and further expand on those traits and skills. The Time Is NOW! As we each reflect on our undergraduate experience, I'm sure we remember the alumni that were ever-present and part of our experience. If it weren't for the support of these alumni, our fraternity experience would have been different. The older generations offered us guidance and support, as well as a place to live and develop. Now it's our turn to be those alumni to future generations of Gamma Thetas. Brother Bryan Slone '76 said it best in his article below. "As undergraduates, we all knew there were important alumni contributing time and money to the chapter, always working to make the chapter better. I think we took their contributions for granted at times, but for the ATWs of my era, it's our chance to return that favor." Construction Committee Finalizes Plans and Drawings Members of the Construction Committee have been meeting with Andy Bailey '80 of Lueder Construction in Omaha and John Carlson '77 of Carlson West Povondra Architects to finalize drawings and the scope of our construction project. During their meetings, hard and difficult decisions have to be made about the quality of construction and utilities that shouldn't have to be made, but we have not yet met our fundraising goal. Only 10.55% of Alumni Have Given Ol' Slone said it perfectly. Now is our chance to make the chapter better. But we can't do that without broader alumni support. We want to undertake the full scope and quality of our project. To accomplish that, we need the support of the remaining 89.45% of our alumni. We need the support of every Gamma Theta alumnus if we are going to raise the remaining $1.28 million to reach our $3.225 million fundraising goal. The average Greek fundraising campaign has 25% participation among alumni. Other chapters at UNL are in the midst of completing or have finished similar fundraising campaigns and have much higher participation than ours. Those include: • Beta Theta Pi-28% participation • Phi Delta Theta-27.7% participation • FarmHouse-26.34% participation • Sigma Chi-23% participation • Delta Tau Delta-22% participation • Delta Upsilon-14% participation How Can You Help? We need the support of each and every Gamma Theta in order to make this happen. To date, the class of 1988 has the most participation, with 39% of brothers giving back to the campaign. If you have already donated, we thank you for your support of our efforts. Please reach out to brothers in your class that have yet to give, and see if your class will be the first to reach 100% participation. If you have not yet donated to the campaign, please consider using the enclosed pledge form that we hope you will fill out and return. Keep in mind, with the opportunity to extend payments over a period of five years, pledges are more easily managed. Thank you for your consideration, and happy holidays to you and your family! The friendships and opportunities, which would follow Bryan after accepting membership into Gamma Theta, shaped his future and would forever be a part of his identity. "I arrived on campus with few social skills, as well as little direction or idea of who I wanted to be, but my chapter experience set me on a path," Bryan said. The teamwork and leadership opportunities Gamma Theta afforded Bryan were some of the most impactful experiences of his life.
