Quilting is in full swing in Quartzsite. The first business of the Quartzsite Quilters was full of plans for the coming year. Quilt show is February 5th and 6th 2016. As always anyone can enter a quilt, wall hanging, etc. Our opportunity quilt is ready for ticket sales. You can see it at the QIA craft shows or stop by the Senior Center on Tuesday and get your tickets. It has Southwest colors this year and will make a beautiful addition to any home. Donations were made last year to the Senior Center,. the Quartzsite School, the food bank and the Library. These were made possible by the community's support of our show and raffle quilt as well as the hard work of all our members.. An emergency donation to the food bank for supplies for infants was made this week. We meet every Tues 9:00 to 2:00 at the Senior Center. Dues are very reasonable and if quilting is your thing you would enjoy our friendly group and be welcome to join us Square Dancing starts in Quartzsite on November 30th. We will be dancing at the Community Center, 295 Chandler, on Monday evenings at 7pm. We are lucky to have a variety of excellent callers from around Arizona and California. We will have a dance and caller schedule at the dances or email Jim Akin at jimakin@flap-art.com. Or call Jim Akin at 503-710-1237 or Dennis McDowell 408-497-0459. On Saturday, November 21st the QPD will be doing an Exercise drill "in reference to a Quartzsite Hazmat Evacuation Drill." The drill will involve Quartzsite Police, Fire, volunteers and Town employees. Quartzsite Fire Department Chief Kevin Hess and QPD Chief Renfro have worked together on the drill. Chief Renfro said it was "an unclas- sified drill and we will be evaluated by Quartzsite Emergency Manage- ment and La Paz County Emergen- cy Management people." This drill is intended to enhance local emergency operation plans, facilitate inter-agency cooperation, and help build a more resilient community through the collabora- tion of local agencies. After the ex- ercise, each agency will assess the processes, plans, and equipment used during the drill. For more information contact Quartzsite Town Hall at 928-927- 4333.
