November 18, 2015 www.DesertMessenger.com 33 La Paz County- On December 10, 2015 at 9:00 am, there will be an Ac- tive Shooter Drill taking place at the Parker Indian Health Center, located at 12033 Agency Road, Parker, Ari- zona. This drill is intended to enhance local emergency operation plans, facilitate inter-agency cooperation, and help build a more resilient com- munity through the collaboration of local agencies. There has been an increase in public shootings across the United States. These active shooter incidents have occurred in all types of communities, regardless of size, demographics, or geographical location. The frequency and unpredictability of these inci- dents have highlighted the need for local law enforcement to be prepared. A group of emergency planners have worked together to develop an active shooter drill. Participating agencies include: CRIT PD, CRIT Fire, CRIT Fish and Game, CRIT Homeland Security, Indian Health Service, Town of Parker PD, La Paz County Emergency Management, La Paz County Sheriff's Department, River Medical, Native Air, Buckskin Fire Department, La Paz County Health Department, and La Paz Regional Hospital. All these agencies have collaborated to develop a plan that ensures the safety of our commu- nity. Local law enforcement agencies have spearheaded this drill to test newly implemented trainings, as well as to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. Medical respond- ers have also created a plan that will ensure the best medical treatment under crisis situations. After the exercise, each agency will assess the processes, plans, and equipment used during the drill. These discussions will generate an After Action Report (AAR) that will help agencies improve their mitiga- tion, response, and recovery efforts during an active shooter incident. Parker Indian Health Center has worked this drill around already scheduled administrative time. Patients and hospital services will not be affected as a result of this exercise. The Emergency Rooms at both Parker Indian Health Center and La Paz Regional Hospital will remain open during the drill. Inpatient and Emergency Room will also not be affected during this exercise. If there are any questions regarding the Active Shooter Drill, please contact Tim Poorbaugh, IHS Safety Officer, at 928-669-2137.
