42 M A R C O D A L M A S O I N T E R V I E W Italian designer Marco Dal Maso's line, Marco Ta Moko, creates jewelry for the bold, adventurous, passionately stylish man. Inspired by history, culture, mythology – and even Maori tattoos – the Marco Ta Moko collection is strong, masculine and meaningful. Please describe your jewelry style. I rethink classic jewelry and update the look with modern concepts and ideas. My style is rooted in the history of jewelry making and design but breathes new life where I'm most inspired. Let's say that my style connects the past to the future and carries on in ways unique to my tastes. What inspired you to make jewelry for men? Thanks to my father, I grew up in the jewelry business. I have always loved to wear rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings… that's part of who I am. Jewelry is an extension of my body and soul. Most of the jewelry made in this world is meant for women. As a man who loved jewelry, I soon realized there weren't many choices for me. When I began working for my father's company I immediately started designing the Marco Ta Moko collection. I wanted to create a jewelry source for men that fi lled the obvious gap in the marketplace. Let's be clear – cool, high-end jewelry for men is still a niche market compared to women's jewelry. Luckily now, with Marco Ta Moko, men have another choice available to them! Who is your brand for? Who is your client? Marco Ta Moko is a highly creative brand with distinctive products. There- fore, the Marco Ta Moko consumer is a man with a confi dent style and a unique mind. My brand is oriented to all of the men in this world who always wanted to show their eclectic personality, their wild spirit and their unique tastes, but never had the chance to match these needs with proper, fi ne and high-end jewelry. My man is a man who wants to leave a deep trace of these strong qualities here on this earth. Since a wedding ring is the one - and often only - piece of jewelry a man wears, what should he consider when choosing this important piece? Defi nitely the style, the materials used and the quality of the manufacturing. They should choose a high-end piece of jewelry that is well-fi nished in every detail. The materials have to be of value and the style has to suit their personality. I suggest they go to their trusted retailer to start.
