ALABAMA BETA AWARDED FOR ACADEMIC EFFORTS, LEADERSHIP, AND SERVICE Undergraduates Make a Powerful Impact on Campus and in the Community T he Alabama Beta Chapter has developed a habit for exceeding expectations within the Greek community. Our Chapter has won a multitude of awards from the university while maintaining the highest GPA of any IFC fraternity for nine of the past 10 semesters. In addition to these huge accomplishments, the Chapter has continued to increase its size to historic levels. Undergraduates Recognized for Outstanding Achievements The Chapter achieved an overall GPA of 3.46 last spring, which was the highest chapter GPA of all Interfraternity Council fraternities. As a result of our outstanding performance as a Chapter, the university awarded our Chapter the Greek Excellence Awards for IFC Chapter of the Year, scholarship, risk management, alumni relations, educational programming, and diversity. We were fortunate enough to win the Dr. Robert E. Witt Cup for outstanding service and leadership for the second consecutive year. The Witt Cup is awarded to one Greek organization selected from all fraternities and sororities on campus. Chapter Has Excellent Turnout for Annual Blackjack Ball Event In November, the Chapter hosted the annual Blackjack Ball philanthropic event that consists of a cocktail and casino theme event with live music. All proceeds collected from ticket sales were donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Alabama. We look forward to raising as much money as possible to benefit such a wonderful organization for years to come. Alabama Beta Welcomes 44 New Brothers Thanks to the dedicated work of Vice President of Recruitment Trevor Pinchback '16, the fall new member class is comprised of 44 young men who will make great additions to our Chapter. This new class puts our total membership at 147, making us one of the largest chapters on campus. This incoming class is geographically diverse as nearly 90% of the new members are out-of-state students, with some from as far as Massachusetts and California. Members Celebrate Alumni Day and Parent's Weekend Earlier this football season, the Chapter hosted our annual Alumni Day and Parent's Weekend. Both events were incredibly successful, and we were grateful to have more than 130 family members in attendance for Parent's Weekend. Both the parents' cocktail event in downtown Tuscaloosa and the tailgate before the game had an excellent turnout. We would like to thank our alumni and parents for their continued support and involvement and we look forward to next year's Alumni Day and Parent's Weekend! Brothers Take the Reigns in Intramurals Participation in intramural sports has always been an important aspect of our culture, and our Chapter competes in every available intramural sport. This participation is characterized by having multiple teams for sports such as flag football. We are very proud of our Chapter's intramural success in all sports, but especially in soccer, basketball, and flag football. Thank You, Alumni and Parents, for Your Continued Support Our Chapter has accomplished enormous feats in the past year and we look forward to seeing the continued success of our members. We greatly appreciate your support and encouragement and we hope you will stop by the Chapter House the next time you're in Tuscaloosa. Fraternally, Tyler Brake '17 Chapter President (317) 332-8224 tbrake@crimson.ua.edu The fall new member class spent Labor Day weekend at the beach in Destin, Florida.
